Mitsubishi Electric is a world leader in the design and manufacture of advanced nuclear power plant controls, with more than 30 years of experience and plant-wide digital control platforms installed in more than a dozen operating nuclear power reactors.

Mitsubishi Electric's nuclear product portfolio includes all of the I&C controllers and human-system interface (HSI) equipment needed to operate every system in a nuclear power plant. This diverse suite of plant control functions is implemented in a seamlessly integrated digital control platform, the Mitsubishi Electric Total Advanced Controller (MELTAC®), which was developed and specifically designed from the ground up for nuclear applications, including both safety and non-safety functions.

Mitsubishi Electric Power Products, Inc.'s advanced nuclear plant controls are designed, built, and tested by Mitsubishi Electric Corporation (MELCO) in a fully 10 CFR 50 Appendix B-compliant engineering and production facility located at MELCO's Energy Systems Center (ESC), in Kobe, Japan.

Integrated Digital Control Room Test Facility

MEPPI’s Nuclear Systems Department (NSD) operates an integrated digital control room simulator facility at MEPPI headquarters in Warrendale, Pennsylvania. Established in 2008, the simulator facility demonstrates the efficiency improvements and safety advantages that a modern digital control room delivers to power plant operators, and was used by licensed nuclear power plant operators to support the verification and validation testing of the Human Systems Interface (HSI) design used in Mitsubishi Heavy Industries' (MHI) US-APWR nuclear power plant design, currently under review by the United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC). Over 650 guests have visited the facility to date, including many from the NRC.
