Spring operated mechanisms, capable of gang or independent pole operation, are available for breakers at 245kV and 362kV. In either application, steel springs open and close the circuit breaker and are housed in a cylinder for maximum safety. All major components in the mechanism, including the trigger and latch, are made from stainless steel.
Gears and ratchet wheel surfaces are specially heat-treated with a molybdenum disulfide compound to eliminate the need for cleaning or greasing in the field. Such design features—verified through testing of up to 50,000 menisms that are durable, reliable and practically maintenance free.
