Flexible AC Transmission Systems (FACTS) is defined by the IEEE as "a power electronic based system and other static equipment that provide control of one or more AC transmission system parameters to enhance controllability and increase power transfer capability."

Mitsubishi Electric Power Products Inc. (MEPPI) has been a worldwide leader in the development, design, and manufacture of FACTS devices since the early 1970s. MEPPI's many accomplishments include the world's first Voltage Sourced Converter (VSC) based STATCOM for a utility in 1979 and the world's first commercial conventional Static Var Compensator (SVC) using direct light triggered thyristor (LTT) devices in 1984. Since then, we have supplied more than 60 SVCs with LTTs, which provides numerous operational advances for SVC applications.
